I purchased the Magellan 1412 after considering the other major brands, like Garmin and Tom Tom. I favored this brand because I was very pleased with one I purchased a number of years ago (Magellan 700). That one was also a factory refurbished, although I paid $500 at the time.
This 1412 is fantastic! It has the added feature of spoken directions with street names - a valuable asset when the traffic is heavy, the streets are unknown or when the sun is bright. I travel with my GPS to other states and the Magellan immediately recognizes where I am - a feature which took a long time on the old unit. I like the search option by zip code as well.
These units are superior to the GPS units installed in most cars. They are more updated and at this price, one could almost buy a new one every year instead of updating the current one.
I was also pleased with the speed at which the unit arrived at my door. I ordered it one day and it arrived the next.

| I got this for going in my RV, and I love it!! Before, I would look for the best Interstate and go, but this is super easy to use, clear voice commands and a very clear split map showing my exact route. This is my first GPS and it couldn't be a better choice. |
